SMD multilayer chip inductors are formed from several layers of ceramic (ferrite) material. They feature low cost and a miniature size compared to wire-wound inductors. Typically, the inductors of a multilayer structure will be chip beads used as EMI filters. However, for certain applications, due to dimensional limitations, customers may also choose multilayer products that function as inductors. At high frequencies, such as GHz, the raw material for the core body is ceramic. In some instances, customers will utilize multilayer chip inductors in DC-DC applications where no high current flows. Nevertheless, owing to advanced technology, design engineers require a product that is compact yet capable of carrying high current.
